MANUAL THERAPY

Manual Therapy consists of a wide range of hands-on therapy to treat muscle tension, injuries and chronic pain.

We strive to identify the repetitive movements and postural abnormalities that cause pain and discomfort by performing thorough and detailed assessments. Assessments and customized treatment plans aim to identify the underlying cause of your condition rather than merely alleviating symptoms.

Each session will be different from the last, building on each one as we work toward a common and understood goal.

Regardless of the number of treatments you receive, the goal remains the same – to make a lasting change in your body through the manipulation of your muscular and connective tissue and movement re-education.

Rehabilitation of the injury or condition can be done through exercise and/or stretching prescription and corrective advice to empower you with the tools and techniques to optimize your performance and wellbeing.

  • The first step of manual therapy is postural assessment to help us determine where holding patterns are when your body is at rest and give us an overall view of what is over and under developed as well as where your imbalances are located. This helps determine the best treatment and individualized training plan.

What we will be looking for…

Areas of tension or pain Holding & Compensation patterns Fascial restrictions Limited Range of Motion Strengths and Weaknesses

Our focus and intention is to find the areas that aren’t working enough and train and challenge them. As we do that, we want to release and relax the areas that are working too much with the end result being a more balanced, functional, and mobile body.

  • Trigger Point Dry Needling allows us to go deeper than other manual therapies. Using a thin, painless filament needle to penetrate the skin, we are able to stimulate the exact spot that is causing you pain and impairment.

Your body reacts to this stimulation by creating biochemical and mechanical changes that help with the healing process. When combined with corrective exercises, this treatment has been proven to help reduce pain, increase range of motion and accelerate the healing process.

  • Myofascial release targets adhesions that develop either within a single muscle or between adjacent muscles and other forms of connective tissue such as fascia, tendons and ligaments. Many athletes and patients experience accumulative or overuse trauma (ex: plantar fasciitis due to running or carpal tunnel syndrome due to prolonged computer/desk work). The goal becomes to work a muscle to remove adhesions and restore neuromuscular function to decrease pain while increasing range of motion, strength, and coordination of movement.

  • We utilise Myofascial Cupping and Functional Range Cupping to help improve range of motion and decrease muscular and fascial tension.

Myofascial Cupping utilises plastic vacuum cups to stretch the underlying tissues. Functional Range Cupping incorporates body movements into the treatment to target specific movement issues of a client.

Benefits include increased range of motion, scar tissue softening, and improved muscle function. Cupping is often integrated into a manual therapy session to achieve lasting benefits.

  • Mobilization is a key component of manual therapy and consists of skilled, passive or active, movements to joints, neuro-vascular and their soft-tissue structures. Joint mobilization involves loosening the restricted joint and increasing its range of motion by providing movement directly into the joint in ways patients cannot move the joint themselves.

  • By using an Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization tool (IASTM), we can break down thickened collagen fibres (scar tissue) and fascial restrictions in soft tissue (muscles, ligaments, tendons, fascia and nerves) that may have developed because of surgery, immobilisation or repetitive strain. This can facilitate the healing activity to regain function and improve motor control.
